FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 15, 2016 – Longmont, Colorado. Today, iCita announced the completion of a learning management system installed and customized for Colorado Young Leaders (CYL) based in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. The learning management system (LMS) is used for students to interact and track their progress online in their journey to become of our strongest leaders of tomorrow. Using the base platform of WordPress and an LMS component, the two companies teamed up to create feature-rich area for students in the CYL program to interact socially, attend events, communicate with instructors, submit assignments, and track their progress through CYL’s Summit Leadership Program.
The LMS platform was the brainchild of Darci Barlow, the Executive Director of Colorado Young Leaders. Her team wanted a platform that would meet and exceed their students’ needs for online learning, communication and interaction, but also provide a platform the organization can build on as they expand throughout Colorado (and eventually other states). “They are the brilliant ones in this equation,” says Tom Smidt, CEO of iCita. “It was their idea, they recognized the need and we expanded on it by making the idea into a plan, that our team developed into reality.”
The new responsive website is located at www.ColoradoYoungLeaders.org and consists of a front end registration process, event management, online donations and ecommerce. The professors and students can login to the feature-filled backend and the world of online learning opens up to them through innovative social interaction, messaging, groups/forums, course curriculum tracking, assignment tracking, and progress reports. The up and coming student leaders can even track their volunteer hours as they move through the CYL Summit Leadership program. Throughout the entire process, students in the program were directly involved in the evaluation, testing and use of the new website and provided very important feedback.
Tom Smidt also worked closely with Mrs. Barlow as CYL partnered with Regis University Software Development students to build working mockups of the LMS system. We lead the students through system evaluation, functional requirements, usability and accountability. The efforts of these college students helped greatly for the high school students in the CYL program.
